Emma Collins
Welsh born Emma was brought up near Amsterdam and returned to the UK at the age of 11, the heartbreak of which prompted her to start writing poetry very, very badly ….
With a natural love of languages, Emma studied French in her Welsh homeland at Cardiff University. During that time, she also spent a year at Nantes University where she fell in love with France and, as fate would have it years later, with her gorgeous French husband.
Emma began writing for children with Ragdoll Ltd in Stratford upon Avon, where she co-wrote the third series of Brum, a live-action comedy starring a super hero car. Since then, she has written children’s animation films and several live-action and animation series for Cbeebies, CBBC, Channel 4 and other children’s channels. Leading actors such as Rik Mayall, John Nettles and Tim Healey have all taken roles in Emma’s scripts.
Emma uses her former experience as a primary school teacher to write educational programmes for Key Stages 1 and 2 in subjects including History, Science and Modern Languages, three of which have been nominated for BAFTA and RTS awards.
More recently Emma wrote several scripts for Alphablocks (an interactive series featuring 26 letters who hold hands to make words come to life), which launched on Cbeebies in January 2010.
Emma writes picture books for the under 7’s and is currently completing her first novel for the 11+ age group.
Outside of work, Emma loves nothing more than chilling with her husband, their children and close friends in her favourite spot in the Beaujolais Valley in France.
