Helen Hart began her adult career as a nurse and midwife, but secretly she was an author from the age of 7, hiding under the bed-covers at night with a torch and notebook, scribbling stories about pirates and vampires and fire-breathing dragons.
It wasn’t until she took time out from nursing to have children that she was able to focus once more on writing. She has written books under various pseudonyms for Scholastic, Virgin Books, and HarperCollins USA.
As a freelance writer, Helen has been a regular contributor to FHM Magazine, and her portfolio includes copywriting for a range of commercial clients.
More recently, Helen has written five novels for young adults, collaborating closely with Working Partners on the Vampire Plagues series for Scholastic and the Sisters of the Sword series for HarperCollins. She has also completed two further novels for young adults, The Black Banner, a pirate adventure which follows the fortunes of 13 year-old Becky Baxter on the high seas of the Caribbean, and Flanders Molly, about a girl who loses her way in the thieving underworld of early-18th century London, and who might, just might, have been a protégée of Daniel Defoe’s…
Helen currently has in preparation a novel for younger readers which is set during the Great Fire of 1666, as well as a series of late-medieval adventures which feature a mysterious golden fireball, a couple of orphans, a buccaneering sea captain, and an escaped slave.
