Jane Bartlett
Jane started her writing career aged four in the local Southampton library. Her father took her there every Saturday morning, and she became an avid reader. By ten she was scribbling extremely long stories in the garden shed about children marooned on a desert island.
After graduating from Warwick University with a degree in film and literature she went on to become a journalist, living in London and having far too much fun. She was an editor for Just 17 and Looks magazine, before moving on to review films and contribute articles to many national newspapers, including The Guardian, Daily Mail and Mirror. She worked as a consumer writer for Time Out magazine, a surprising turn of events given she didn’t much like shopping. She also wrote for numerous women’s magazines, and became known for her articles about emotional health. One of her all time favourites was called ‘What is Happiness?’ a question that still perplexes her.
She trained in transpersonal psychotherapy, but abandoned the diploma half-way through when her first child came along, quickly followed by two more. For several years she did nothing but change nappies.
Jane has had two non-fiction books published; the one closest to her heart explores the spirituality of family life. Now that her children look after their own personal hygiene, she has taken her first foray into fiction, writing a novel for teenagers. She remembers her teenage years vividly as being a time of great awakening, joy, pain and dangerously tight jeans.
Jane lives in Brighton with her partner, three children, dog and cat. She is currently completing an MA in Christian spirituality and working on her second novel.
