Having grown up in North Yorkshire, Matt has always been interested in local myths and legends so from an early age his writing has frequently involved a mixture of the historical and fantastic. After a brief spell working in banking, then living in France as part of his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, he embarked on a career in teaching languages in south London, where he is Assistant Headteacher.
“As I was growing up, I loved to read stories with a strong sense of adventure, an air of mystery and a plot which whizzed along. I bear this in mind when writing today and aim to produce work that I would like to read myself, as well as that I know my students enjoy. Working in a secondary school gives me a limitless supply of critical readers who are always willing to give a very honest opinion or a good idea for a plot!”
Matt has just completed his first novel, Candledancer, a historical fantasy adventure for young adults, and is currently working on his second book. |
