Noah was born in 1973 in Ontario, Canada. Before moving to London he lived in Tokyo for three years, where he taught English. In all that time, he barely learned a word of the language – something he feels should be pointed out, before you try to talk to him in Japanese!
Currently he manages a bookshop in Central London – a considerable step up from a brief stint working in McDonald’s, where he quit just moments before being fired.
As a young child, Noah’s favourite writers were Gordon Korman and Eric Wilson, both of whom made him realise that being an author was an attainable goal. In high school he moved on to Harlan Ellison, William Gibson and Douglas Adams. These days, he is inspired most by Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman and Jasper Fforde.
Noah’s articles and cartoons have appeared in publications as diverse as the Globe & Mail (Canada’s national newspaper), and the Knights of the Dinner Table, an off-the-wall comic focusing on a group of role playing gamers.
When time allows, Noah likes to go on cycling adventures; past trips include crossing Canada, much of the US and Japan, and several European countries. While in Japan, Noah climbed up Mount Fuji – and he can highly recommend the view – as well as taking along a good pair of warm gloves – and maybe an oxygen tank or two.
Noah’s first novel, The Professional Tourist, is set in a Tokyo language school, with some challenging students and a bizarre collection of teachers. Love, biker-gangs and the underworld of the ‘Blue Village’ where the homeless of Tokyo live, are a potent reminder that East meeting West can throw up some surprises for everyone.
