His chosen career – as a marine biologist, set to save the world’s coral reefs – still awaits Paul, but until this happens he has been cheerfully teaching English and Sports in secondary schools in both England and Australia. He now lives on a beautiful part of the Sussex coast with his wife and three children aged 14, 12 and 10. In his free time, Paul enjoys running ‘up the Downs’ and competing in road races - as well as road-testing all manner of good food and wine.
Paul’s first novel for young adults, Gargoyle, focuses on a conspiracy unearthed by teenagers Alix, her sister Vicki and a reluctant schoolfriend, Jez. As the government tries to conceal why a number of gruesome deaths have occurred in remote villages and farms, the friends find themselves at the centre of a terrifying ordeal. A Day in the Death Time follows 14-year-old Billy and his unlikely friend, the cool kid Raneesh, as Billy battles to survive the ordeals of a school day when the odds are very much stacked against him. His crime? To be a little bit different from the others.
Paul’s third work, The Drina Wolves, has as its centre the Srebenica massacre and one Muslim boy’s escape across Europe. Hunted because he is a vital witness, the lad finds an extraordinary ally in a long-distance lorry driver - and as they head for the UK and apparent safety, both are forced to confront their prejudices and reassess their inner selves.
