Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Robert M. Pirsig has achieved world fame and classic status for his iconic book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values (1974). This was followed, seventeen years later, by Lila: An Inquiry into Morals, a new edition of which was published by Alma Books in August 2006.

Pirsig has published little other than his two major works and avoids the public eye, frequently travelling around the Atlantic by boat. He has lived in various places around the United States as well as Sweden, Belgium and England.
