Susan Parisi was born in Vancouver, Canada, but has spent most of her adult life in Australia. Her passion for all things Italian (including her husband) has often been interrupted by periods of employment in occupational psychology and university administration. Susan lives in Sydney, Australia and travels frequently to Italy.
Susan’s debut novel, Blood of Dreams -- a lush and erotically-charged story of opium, obsession and murder in eighteenth century Venice – released by Penguin (Australia) has won the 2007 Best Horror Novel category at the prestigious Aurealis Awards. The awards celebrate the best of science fiction and genre fiction. On accepting her award, Susan said: "Blood of Dreams is the sort of story that reclines on a chaise longue sipping champagne from a slipper. It's indolent horror. Some readers like the dark love story. Others see it as an historical murder mystery. Either way, the menace is there from the start but the horror is a shadowy presence in the corner that eventually takes over the room.I'm very proud to receive an award that acknowledges the gothic heart of this story. Thank you very much."
She is currently working on her next novel, Mosaic, a thriller concerning the discovery of a mosaic fragment with strange occult power in an aging palazzo in Sicily.
